CARNIVAL SPIRIT FACTS

Description
Carnival Spirit is the first of the Spirit class vessels in the Carnival fleet. She was followed by Carnival Pride, Carnival Legend and Carnival Miracle. The ship was one of the first of the Carnival ‘Fun Ships’. Carnival Spirit has interiors themed in Gothic, Chinese and Egyptian cultures. A central feature of the ship is the nine storey high glass-domed Atrium.

Destinations
Carnival Spirit cruises on a number of routes, including Caribbean cruises. The ship also cruises to the Mexican Riviera from the port of San Diego. A Hawaiian cruise departs from Vancouver or Ensenada and on its way features ports such as Kauai, Hilo, Kona, Maui. Carnival Spirit will be based in Sydney, Australia from October 2012.

History
Carnival Spirit was built at the Kvaerner Masa-Yards shipyard in Finland in 2001 and commenced service in April 2001. The ship’s maiden voyage was from the port of Miami and had its ceremony inaugurated by Elizabeth Dole, the godmother of the Spirit. The maiden voyage was a sixteen day trip to the Panama Canal.

Dining
There are a range of dining options and variety in its cuisine. They include bars, cafes and restaurants such as the Champions Sports bar, Shanghai piano bar, Canopy bar, Fantail bar, Empire restaurant, La Playa Grille Lido restaurant, Nouveau Steak house, Fountain café, Lido café, Deli, Ice cream bar, salad bar, Asian Corner, Tastes of the nation and a grand buffet.

Entertainment
Carnival Spirit, being one among the ‘Fun ships’ of the cruise line, has fun for all age groups. Places like the Pharaoh’s lounge, Foyer lounge, Club Cool Jazz Club, Dancing Dance Club and Louis XIV casino are ideal entertainment spots for adults on the cruise. Camp Carnival, Club O2, Circle C, Video arcade, various water slides and pools keep the children and teens on the cruise occupied.

Health and relaxation needs are catered for at Spa Carnival with massage room, relaxation room, a steam, sauna and a beauty salon on the Spa deck. For the passengers looking for a good work out there is a gym, an aerobics center, basket ball court, volley ball court, a jogging track and a mini golf court.

Cabins
As you would expect, there are a range of cabin options on the Carnival Spirit catering for a range of budgets. The Balcony cabins and the Ocean view rooms on the cruise are 200 to 250 sq ft and can also sleep up to three guests. The inside cabins are smaller and can accommodate two guests. The Penthouses and the Suites on the Spirit are sized at 400 sq ft and 350 sq ft, with sitting area, dining area and private bathroom.
