Voyages of Discovery: Comfortable Cruising

Voyages of Discovery cruises attract travelers who like to keep their cruising experience low key. The razzmatazz of mega cruises is brushed aside here for more mellow nights with the ship’s orchestra playing in the background. While the M/V Discovery is a small cruise ship, able to carry only 780 passengers, they do have comfortably-sized cabins. The ambiance is very cozy and casual with hearty breakfasts and full meals served at the Lido Deck.

The cruise fares are reasonable, although these aren’t all-inclusive cruises. Add-ons for onshore excursions and hotel accommodations aren’t that steep, either, though. Overall, the line gives budget fares for passengers who are happy with a 3.8-star-rated cruise ship.

Quiet Itineraries to Serene Destinations

Voyages of Discovery operates with a single cruise ship, the M/V Discovery. They have cruises to the Caribbean, Latin America, the Middle East, Asia and Australia during the winter, and Northern Europe, Russia, and the Mediterranean during summer. The itineraries are designed for passengers who basically want to have their time to themselves, sunning on the decks of the ship, keeping themselves fit at a gym overlooking the sea, keeping connected with friends online, or scouring the library for resources to complement the tours.

There are also lectures from renowned experts in the field while the passengers are onboard. Half-day and whole day onshore trips can be arranged with the cruise line. It’s just too bad that these aren’t included in the cruise’s fare. Full day onshore excursions may be a bit pricy because these include hotel accommodations. Also, if passengers book late, they may have to settle for a limited choice of rooms. The line does offer cheap holiday packaged for early birds. Planning a trip five months ahead with this cruise line can save you a lot of money.

Those who are expecting spacious accommodation may be disappointed with the cabin’s small sizes, but during the course of the trip, they’re bound to fall in love with the crew and the hominess of the ship. Breakfasts onboard are especially impressive. Expect scones, sandwiches, and cakes served buffet-style. Lunch and dinners are served in smaller portions, but with passengers still full from breakfast and teas, no one’s going to mind.

Educational tours

While the cruise itinerary might not have the extra trimmings offered by higher profile cruise lines, they do have comprehensive tours for travelers wishing to know more about the destinations. Cruises to Northern Europe are complemented with lectures on history and satisfying onshore excursions. Voyages to Asian countries are exceptionally attractive, especially the ones to Sri Lanka and India. It’s advisable for passengers to sign up for extended stays in and whole day tours through these countries. The packages may be pricier but they’re worth every cent.
