STAR PRINCESS FACTS

Description
The Star Princess is truly a destination on its own, complete with all the trademark Princess Cruises features and facilities that make this ship a shining star on the high seas. This ship is sister to the Grand Princess and Golden Princess, but slightly differs from the layout of her predecessors—the Star Princess has an additional plunge pool at the stern. Designed for luxury, comfort, and leisure, the Star Princess boasts of a piazza-style atrium, a Movies Under the Stars outdoor theatre, gourmet restaurants, and deluxe staterooms.

Destinations
The Star Princess cruises the Eastern Caribbean, Europe and South American packages at different times of the year.

History
Built in 2002 by famed Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri in Montefalco, Italy, the Star Princess features a slightly altered deck layout compared to her predecessors. The additional plunge pool led to one less hot tub, and the teenagers’ hot tub and sunbathing area seen in older Princess vessels were removed. The Caribbean Princess was modelled after the Star Princess, but with more cabins to accommodate a bigger number of passengers.

On March 23, 2006, a fire swept through the passenger compartments on the port side of the Star Princess. This fire has devastated 150 cabins and caused smoke damage to at least a hundred more. Passengers were transferred to a hotel in Jamaica, the nearest port of call, and flown home. The Star Princess travelled transatlantic to Lloyd Werft, Bremerhaven in Germany for repairs. Two months later, the Star Princess resumed regular service from Copenhagen.

Dining
True to its claim of being a destination on its own, the Star Princess offers a wide selection of dining options to its passengers. The Amalfi Dining Room offers traditional cruise dining with personal waiters, while Anytime Dining (flexible dining hours) choices are found at the Portofino and Capri Dining Rooms.

The Princess ships’ trademark restaurants are also present on the Star Princess, with Sabatini’s serving up authentic Italian favourites and Crown Grill cooking up gourmet wonders with juicy steaks and fresh seafood. Mouth-watering dishes are just half of the story at the Ultimate Balcony Dining, which provides diner with breathtaking views of the ocean that they can enjoy with their meals.

Entertainment
Whether you’re looking for stimulating, educational, entertaining, or inspiring activities, you’re sure to find them on board the Star Princess. Splash around the numerous pools and hot tubs while enjoying the fresh ocean breeze, or take advantage of the top-notch sports facilities. If you’re bent more toward the enrichment of the mind, there are a number of interesting courses offered by ScholarShip@Sea, as well as a library, an art gallery, and an Internet café on board. Couples dreaming of a romantic wedding at sea can tie the knot at the Hearts and Minds Wedding Chapel in front of the Star Princess’ captain.

Entertainment is another thing that the Star Princess takes seriously. The vessel has three main entertainment areas: the Princess Theatre, the Vista Show Lounge, and the Movies Under the Stars outdoor theatre, where passengers can enjoy fascinating productions and first-run feature-length movies. And then there are the ship’s hot spots—the Grand Casino, the Explorers Lounge, and the Skywalkers Nightclub where the nights are guaranteed to be glamorous.

Kids and teens aren’t left out of the fun—there are a lot of activities in store for them. The spacious youth and teen centres are fully stocked with the latest video games and movies, arts and crafts materials, fooseball tables, and board games. There are also age-appropriate activities for everyone under 18—from Princess Pelicans (for ages 3 to 7) and Shockwaves (8 to 12) to Remix (ages 13 to 17).

Cabins
The Star Princess has nine accommodation options including the interior double, ocean view obstructed, ocean view with two portholes, ocean view double, ocean view double with balcony, mini-suite with balcony, suite with balcony, and the grand suite with balcony. The ship also has a large family suite with two separate staterooms connected a spacious living room and a wide private balcony. A family suite sleeps up to eight people.
